Arena Arts Show and the Kells Hay Festival Weekend June 25th 2015

Deirdre Shannon singing live on RTE 1’s Arts show Arena as part of the Kells Hay Festival Literary weekend. July 2015. Also taking part in the show were Brian Eno composer, musician and record producer for the likes of U2 and Talking Heads, Ben Okri award winning poet and novelist, and Matthew Spangler American Director and Playwright.  A great night out as part of the festival very interesting listening to Sean Rocks guests and the common roots of going to Art college as did i before starting my music career. Later on we caught some of Michael Hardings tales from his books as well as poetry readings under the stars and in candlelight by RTE presenters Myles Dungan and Sean Rocks. Michael Harding also graced us again with some heartfelt poetry and the night ended with a surprise visit by Ben Okri. All in all a brilliant weekend and i look forward to next year.

About Deirdre

About Deirdre
Deirdre a versatile singer from Ireland, has always had a natural instinct for music. She developed this further by classically training at Dublin’s College of Music. With this education under her belt, Deirdre embarked on a solo career and through an illustrious series of achievements in critically acclaimed singing groups and shows around the world has made a real name for herself. Featuring heavily in Deirdre’s career to date are two internationally acclaimed shows – Lord of the Dance and Celtic Woman.
Deirdre was chosen by Michael Flatley in 1997 to be vocal soloist in his smash hit sensation. Cast in the role of Erin the Goddess she performed extensively in the Americas, Africa and Europe for over ten years. Indeed she just returned from his latest European tour which featured the much hailed return of Michael himself to the performing stage.
She toured the US and Ireland in 2006/2007 as soloist in the hit show Celtic Woman. Their album topped the World Music Charts for over 45 weeks, earning Deirdre a gold and platinum disc from EMI Manhattan.
Her performances have placed her on some of the world’s most prestigious stages such as the Royal Albert Hall (London), Royal Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), O2 (Dublin & London), Carnegie Hall & Radio City Music Hall (New York).
For Deirdre, television recordings have been many. The Celtic Tenors and Celtic Thunder Specials were both filmed for PBS TV in America. She recorded the vocal soundtrack for a historical documentary series, The Island, commissioned by Ireland’s national TV channel, RTE. Live TV appearances include Britain’s major annual event, Music Live, commissioned and aired by BBC, performing alongside Jamie Cullem, Bob Geldof, Brian Kennedy and Moya Brennan. Other appearances of note include CBS’ Morning News and Fox’ Morning TV (USA), The Jules Holland Show (UK), Kelly Live, Open House and The Late Late Show on Irish television.
Her ability to ‘cross-over’ diverse singing styles has made Deirdre comfortable performing and recording with a wide range of artists such as The Chieftains, Michael Crawford, Elvis Costello, Julie Feeney, Dionne Warwick and Air Supply. As guest soloist, Deirdre features on The Canadian Tenors’ and Celtic Thunder’s latest albums. She also makes a special appearance on Frank McNamara’s If You’re Irish and the Celtic Tenors’ We Are Not Islands (Ireland)/ Remember Me (Worldwide).
As a soloist in her own right, Deirdre has one award-winning album under her belt, self-titled Deirdre Shannon and has most recently releasing her second album Anamċeol.
